Empire State of Mind!

Yesterday, thanks to my boyfriend, I finally made it up the Empire State Building.
For New Yorkers, it is one of those iconic tourist traps that we see on TV and know it’s in the city but we never really take the time to visit.

I guess because we know it’s always going to be there and unless you have family visiting from out of town, it’s not on the top of your list of things to do.

Thanks to groupon, Ricardo was able to get one of those 3 in one NYC tourist attraction deals for a pretty good price. The deal included the Madam Tussauds wax museum, a sightseeing cruise around Manhattan and the Empire State Building.

Most people know of the Empire State Building because of the classic King Kong movie. It is from the very top of the building’s  mooring mast that King Kong falls to his death and leaves the woman he loves behind. King Kong is one of the saddest romantic movies I’ve ever seen. Filmed in 1933 the original King Kong movie was released just 2 years after the building was completed.

The view from the 86th floor, one of the 2 observation decks, the other being on the 102 floor, was absolutely stunning. From there we had the most breakfasting 360 degree view of the entire city.

The observation deck was packed with tourists and from the digital tour guide that we were given upon entering, I learnt that the building made more money from people visiting the observation decks every year than it did from renting out the space in the building itself.

I would definitely recommend the Empire State Building as a must visit for tourists as well as my fellow New Yorkers. The view from the top is breathtaking and it’s definitely a fun way to spend the day with your loved ones.
